It is aimed at educating, guiding, and instructing the person with alcohol, drug, or other addiction problems, so they know what is necessary to do to recover. Some NEST professionals are trained to offer assessments and counselling or therapy to support the client in implementing skills and strategies that aid in the long-term management of their new lifestyle.

Different NEST members work as:

Clinical Psychologists, who constitute the largest specialty, generally work in private practice or in hospitals and clinics. Clinical psychologists interview patients, administer psychological tests, and offer individual, family, couples, and group therapy, depending on their specific training. The clinical psychologist focuses on understanding, preventing, and alleviating psychological distress or dysfunction, as well as promoting personal development and a subjective sense of wellbeing.

Educational Psychologists: work with students, teachers, parents, and administrators to resolve students’ behavioural and learning problems.

Sport Psychologists: work with professional athletes and coaches to improve their performance and increase their motivation.
