Family Therapy
A type of intervention focused on the relationships between members of a family. It can be the primary treatment or it can complement individual treatments for addiction or other problems.
The therapist identifies the family dynamics that are contributing to the children’s behaviours or other problems. They help to resolve conflicts and improve communication.
Some sessions may be for the entire family, while others may be arranged for different subgroups (children, a parent with a son or daughter, individual sessions) to address issues or topics related to the family therapy work.
Family therapy is useful in the following situations, among others:
-
Behavioural or emotional problems in children or adolescents.
-
Unresolved grief for a family member.
-
Family adaptation to new situations, such as a change of city or country.
-
New members in the family.
-
Illness of a family member.
