Professional Background

Dr. Jenkins is an American child and adolescent psychologist with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology (specialising in Child Development), a Master’s in School Psychology, an advanced degree in School Psychology, and a doctorate in School Psychology. In the US, she worked in centres for adults with disabilities, in special education for children and adolescents, and in psychiatric facilities for children aged 5 to 18. Her research area in the US focused on the neuropsychological and developmental effects in children from birth to 4 years old due to prenatal exposure to crack and cocaine.

Dr. Jenkins moved to the UK in 1992 when she was offered an honorary post as a psychologist in London within the National Health Service. She was assigned to be the Psychologist in a GP surgery in South-West London, worked in the Learning Disabilities Assessment Team at St Thomas’ Hospital, and in the clinical team for families at St Mary’s Hospital and Central Middlesex Hospital. Furthermore, she participated in the Tavistock Clinic’s Young Offenders Project to develop assessment protocols for young people with sexual offences, co-facilitate group therapy sessions, and complete research in the area of juvenile sexual offending.

In 1996, Dr. Jenkins moved to Barcelona where she has worked on various publications and has edited doctoral theses for students. In 1998, she began her consultancy for international schools in Barcelona, offering consultations for parents and teachers. In her private practice, she offers individual psychotherapy for children, adolescents, and young people up to 21 years old. Dr. Jenkins enjoys giving talks for parents in schools and other institutions.
