Solution-Focused Brief Therapy

Home 9 Solution-Focused Brief Therapy

Typically, this may involve anything between 4 and 10 sixty-minute sessions, which take place weekly and at the same time (where possible) each week. The number of sessions is agreed upon in advance. This form of therapy works on the basis of realism and achievable solutions to identifiable problems. At the end of this process, it is very common for a client to decide to continue with longer-term therapy or join a group.

It is generally recommended for four main reasons:

  • As an extended form of assessment;

  • For individuals who do not feel ready, or cannot afford, to make a commitment to long-term therapy;

  • As preparation for group psychotherapy;

  • To work on a current difficulty that is connected to a circumstance, change, or loss. Typically, this would be neither long-standing nor deeply rooted in a person’s lifestyle or personality.
